Happy May, {{contact.first_name}}!

This month, we are focusing on one of the most important yet sometimes challenging aspects of kids' health: quality sleep!

Good sleep is foundational for kids’ growth, mood, and immune support, setting them up for success in school, sports, and play. This month, we’re sharing ways to foster restful sleep for your child, with helpful routines, functional testing insights, and a calming bedtime snack idea.

Building Kid-Friendly Sleep Routines 🌙

Setting up a calming sleep routine can help children fall asleep faster and enjoy better-quality rest. Here are some family-friendly tips for a peaceful bedtime routine:

  • Limit screen time before bed: Encourage reading, drawing, or other calming activities instead.

  • Establish a regular bedtime: Keeping the same bedtime each night helps regulate their internal clock.

  • Create a cozy sleep environment: Soft lighting, a comfortable blanket, and soothing scents like lavender can set the mood for restful sleep.

Cozy Cinnamon Apple Oatmeal 🍏🍂

This Cozy Cinnamon Apple Oatmeal is a warm and nourishing dish that’s perfect for winding down before bed. It combines the goodness of oats with the sweetness of apples and the comforting flavor of cinnamon.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup rolled oats

  • 2 cups water or milk (or a combination)

  • 1 medium apple, peeled, cored, and diced

  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon

  • 1 tbsp honey or maple syrup (optional, for sweetness)

  • 1/4 cup chopped walnuts or almonds (optional, for crunch)

  • A pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, bring the water or milk to a boil.

  2. Add the diced apple, oats, cinnamon, and salt to the boiling liquid. Stir to combine.

  3. Reduce the heat to medium-low and let it simmer for about 5–7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the oats are cooked and creamy.

  4. Remove from heat and stir in honey or maple syrup if desired.

  5. Top with chopped walnuts or almonds for added texture, and serve warm.

Why It’s Great for Kids’ Sleep

  • Oats are rich in complex carbohydrates and can help boost serotonin levels, which may promote relaxation and sleep.

  • Apples provide fiber and natural sweetness, along with vitamins and antioxidants.

  • Cinnamon adds a warm flavor and may help regulate blood sugar levels, contributing to a more stable mood.

  • Nuts add healthy fats and protein, helping keep kids satisfied and full.

This warm, hearty oatmeal is a wonderful way to end the day and support your child's health and well-being!
